Nigeria's Victor Boniface, a striker for Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen, has been ruled out of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations due to injury. The forward suffered an undisclosed injury that will prevent him from participating in the tournament, which begins on January 23.
Boniface, 21, was hoping to make his debut for Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations. He has been in impressive form for Leverkusen this season, scoring five goals in 14 appearances in all competitions.
Boniface's injury is a blow to Nigeria, who are among the favorites to win the Africa Cup of Nations. The Super Eagles have won the tournament three times, most recently in 2013.
