Emergence from Serbian Kingdom
The Serbian Empire emerged from the medieval Serbian kingdom in the fourteenth century. The kingdom had existed from 1217 to 1346 and was ruled by the Nemanjić dynasty. With the regal coronation of Stefan, the Grand Principality of Serbia was elevated to an empire.
Reign of Stefan Uroš IV Dušan
Stefan Uroš IV Dušan, also known as Dušan the Mighty, ruled as King of Serbia from 1331 to 1355. He was crowned Emperor of the Serbs, Greeks, and Albanians in 1346. Dušan was the greatest ruler of the empire, expanding its territory and strengthening its power.
