Japan Issues Emergency Warning As Powerful Typhoon Shanshan Nears

Japan Prepares for Typhoon Shanshan, Issues Emergency Warning

Typhoon Strengthens, Approaches Kyushu

Japan has issued its highest emergency alert as Typhoon Shanshan barrels toward the southern island of Kyushu with the very strong storm threatening to bring heavy rain and destructive winds.

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) warned that Typhoon Shanshan is forecast to make landfall on Sunday, bringing with it intense rainfall and winds of up to 108 kilometers (67 miles) per hour.

Emergency Warnings in Place

The JMA has issued emergency warnings for Kagoshima, Miyazaki, and Oita prefectures, urging residents to evacuate to safety.

The warnings come just weeks after Japan was hit by Typhoon Nanmadol, which brought torrential rain and the risk of destructive landslides to Kyushu.

Stay Informed, Take Precautions

Residents in the affected areas are advised to monitor weather updates and follow the instructions of local authorities.

Heavy rain and strong winds can cause flooding, landslides, and power outages. Residents should take precautions to protect themselves and their property, such as securing loose objects and staying away from windows.
